Portugal receives first shipment of organic bananas from Peru

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) stated that two thousand families devoted to producing organic bananas in northern Peru, through the Peruvian association of United Organic Banana Producers (BOS), had sent the first shipment of this fruit to the market in Portugal under the Fresh Peru brand.

The export of 1,080 boxes (27 tons) of this product to the Portuguese market was achieved thanks to the support of the Commercial Office of Peru (OCEX) in Lisbon, which established the first contact between BOS and Positive Gravity, an importing company dedicated to the food sector in Portugal.

The organic bananas were distributed to key outlets in Portugal, such as the Continente, Pingo Doce, Intermache, Brio, and Celeiro supermarkets.
Demand for this product in this market is expected to be successful, hence producers plan to send eight to ten containers of organic bananas to Portugal per week.

In addition, the organic bananas will be sent from Portugal to other European countries. In the next three months the product will be sent to Spain, and in the second half of the year it will be sent to Poland.

The newly arrived merchandise was packed with the Peru Brand bags, which were requested and designed by Positive Gravity thanks to the management of OCEX Lisbon to promote Peruvian products sold abroad.

The BOS was established in 2003 to promote the development of small organic banana producers located in the district of Salitral in the province of Sullana in the region of Piura.
