Good exports to Middle East and Southeast Asia

China: Ginger prices to stabilise after Chinese New Year

"The new ginger production season started on December 21st. Our company mainly exports fresh ginger to the Middle East and Southeast Asia and air dried ginger to Holland and Russia. However, due to the long voyage, the situation of exporting to Holland and Russia is not very good. Our annual export volume in 2016 was about 50 containers, the export price fell over the same period," said Ms. Jenny from the Laiwu Import and Export Co.Ltd.

Exports expected to decline after the Spring Festival
"After the Chinese New Year, the ginger export market will become stable, but the foreign market demand for Chinese ginger will be reduced. Prices for Thai ginger will decline and that makes the product compete with Chinese ginger. However, our prospects for the European market are still promising. Because we are very strict in the choice of suppliers, we will be able to comply with EU standards for pesticide residues."

Garlic exports increased by 50%-100%
"Garlic is another major export product of our company, which is mainly exported to the Middle East, Southeast Asia and South America and other countries. The amount of exports has decreased compared the same time last year, but the prices have risen. Total sales increased by 50%-100%. After the Spring Festival, the market price of garlic is expected to drop and the foreign market demand will also decrease as garlic peaked last month and Yunnan garlic is coming into season."

"Our company is a comprehensive export-oriented enterprise and we have the right to self-export. Our annual production capacity is over 10,000 tons. We will attend the 'Berlin fruit and vegetable exhibition' in Germany in early February, and hopefully we can have the opportunity to join hands with our industry partners to expand the overseas markets."
