San Marzano tomatoes grown in the Sarno-Nocerino area hold the PDO mark. Agrigenus monitors the entire chain, as it cans the produce directly and even produces a sauce ideal for pasta.
"These tomatoes are truly extraordinary and we are trying to promote them as best as we can. A while ago, we were thinking about how to increase the value of rotation crops, that is why we came up with the idea of bakery products, bread sticks in this case, made using our wheat and flavoured with San Marzano. They are quite popular and ideal as snacks," explains Manager Francesco Pirolo.

San Marzano tomatoes are particularly popular in the United States, though they have to deal with fake ones. "Unfortunately, we are aware that some batches of traditional tomatoes arrive in the US as San Marzano. Of course this penalises us, as our produce follows strict specifications and is unique with an unmistakable taste."
Agrigenus can produce up to 2,400 tons a year, but last year quantities were lower due to the weather. Harvesting is carried out by hand and the specification reports a maximum yield of 80 tons/hectare.
