"In the past period, the export price of garlic was the double of the price during the same period last year. This put pressure on the export market, resulting in many clients from foreign countries slightly decreasing their ordered amounts. But in the end, the export amounts show an upward trend," says Tommmi from Jinxiang Fengsheng Trading.
"We have a 240 hectares cultivation ground in Jinxiang county in Shandong for the cultivation of Garlic. 70% to 80% of that garlic is exported to Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The remaining 20% to 30% is destined for sale at the Chinese wholesale markets of first-tier and second-tier cities. Our yearly export amounts to around 5000 tons."
Garlic production is stable
"Up to now, the winter hasn't been too harsh and the production volumes of this year's garlic have been relatively stable as a result. The smog also hasn't influenced the growth of the garlic. With regard to the export market, the procedures we are required to go through to export to Europe are being simplified from day to day. It's another benefit for the export of garlic to Europe."
"Our company is located in the heart of China's garlic cultivation: Jinxiang county in Shandong. The company stretches over more than 5000 square metres with 5 million fixed assets. We also have a cold storage facility with a capacity of more than 2000 tons. The production capacity on an annual basis exceeds 20,000 tons. In order to gain the opportunity to expand into the European market, we will participate in the Fruit and Vegetable Exhibition of Berlin in February. We hope to get in touch with a lot of excellent businesses for future cooperation."
