Snow has slowed truck shipments between Turkey & Bulgaria

The poor weather conditions have considerably slowed down the movement of large cargo trucks destined for European countries at the Kapıkule and Hamzabeyli border posts (between Turkey and Bulgaria) and Ipsala (between Turkey and Greece). Snow has prevented vehicles from rolling normally and the customs control operations were also disrupted by the weather.

The weather left truck drivers on the roadside for days without being able to support themselves. Some drivers have claimed that this is not the first time they have been in this extreme situation and are asking the Turkish government to take the necessary measures to ensure that it does not happen again. But, according to them, the formalities on the Bulgarian side are also excessively slowed down.

The Red Cross distributed food and hot drinks to waiting drivers.

According to the statistics of the Regional Directorate of Customs and Trade of Trakya, over the last 5 days around 8000 trucks have passed through these three customs points, in one direction or the other.
