"Guatemala: "Preparations for mango campaign have begun"

Eight weeks before Guatemala starts exporting fresh mangos, producers have stated that they would focus their marketing of fresh mango on North America and Europe. Mauro Suazo, the president of Suazo Agro International LLC, a consultant in supply chains and procurement of fruit, said he had met with prominent leaders of the mango production and export sectors from Zacapa, Estanzuelas, Rio Hondo, and other production areas.

He met with the leaders and toured the fields in order to advance the preparation of the supply logistics and to finalize distribution and sales negotiations in international markets. "The productions look great. The fields are very clean and healthy. There are very good blooms and excellent fruit formation. The weather is warm and there are light winds, predominantly from the south, so the plantations have a good ventilation and the fruits are getting a good color," Suazo said.

Guatemala expects to export Tommy Atkins mango and a small volume of the Ataulfo variety from week 13 to week 20. "Just before Mexico's strong export of its different mango varieties. Our advantage this campaign is that producers and exporters have changed their mentality and are convinced that quality is their most important asset and that it is key to success," said Byron Trigueros, export manager at Cyafsa.

"We expect producers, exporters, and importers will have a successful season. There's no doubt that the campaign will be good for the consumers who appreciate good quality and the great taste of the fruit from Guatemala," Suazo stated.
