FTA between Peru and Honduras is already in force

The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Peru and Honduras entered into force on January 1, 2017, said the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Eduardo Ferreyros.

The new trade agreement immediately removed tariffs on 84% of Peruvian exports and provides that the remaining tariffs will be eliminated in a maximum of five years.

The main Peruvian products benefiting from the FTA are: asparagus, artichokes, grapes, pineapples, mangoes, avocados, quinoa, kiwi, caƱihua, paprika, coffee, and corn, which will have immediate access to the Honduran market with zero duties.

According to the head of Mincetur, the FTA between both countries "is a positive tool to promote bilateral trade that will benefit small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which are in constant search of new destinations."

"Small Peruvian companies can access regional markets to start an export process more easily," Ferreyros said. In this regard, he added, "Honduras is nearby market that speaks our language and has the same customs, which makes things easier for us."

The official also stated that, in 2015, 78% of Peruvian exports to Honduras corresponded to non-traditional products and 22% to exports of traditional products.
