Since the beginning of 2016, Russia's Rostov region has destroyed more than 720 thousand tonnes of fruits and vegetables which had fallen under the Kremlin's sanctions, as reported by the management of the Rosselkhoznadzor for the Rostov region.
Most of the food destroyed was fruit. According to the agency, caterpillar tractors crushed more than 628,000 tonnes of banned fruit. The most often destroyed have been pears, apples, peaches and nectarines.
Meanwhile, the total volume of vegetables destroyed stood at 86,000 tonnes. In this category, the products most often destroyed have been tomatoes and peppers.
Most of the products destroyed had been imported to the Rostov region from the Czech Republic, Poland and Estonia.
