"Let's go!"

Good first day in Dakar Rally for Team De Groot Freshgroup

Yesterday 146 motorbikes, 83 cars, 50 trucks and 37 quads left the starting point in Ascuncion (Paraguay) for the 39th edition of the Dakar Rally. The participants taking part are from 59 different countries of which the Netherlands is the second best represented country after France. Under the motto 'let's go' the 'De Groot Fresh Group Rally Team' is entering the Dakar adventure as number 549 for the first time.

The team, consisting of William de Groot, Edwin van de Langenberg, Jos van der Pas, Bert Brouwers, Fred Blakenburg, Bas Hendriks, Ben de Groot and Gert Breddels, had their first drive yesterday. The De Groot Freshgroup Dakar team ended as a good 25th place only 8.15 minutes from 1st place after the first drive.

The elements are expected to cause difficult conditions, as well as the track. The participants will be traveling at an altitude of 3000 metres for almost a week and the temperatures will vary from a 'tropical' 40 degrees Celsius to temperatures around freezing.

The participants have to travel almost 9000 kilometres in January to reach the finishing line at Buenos Aires, of which 4000 kilometres will be a race against the clock.
