Spain: Andalusian orange exports down 15%
Andalusian orange exports have fallen by 15 percent in volume, despite the fact that their value has remained stable, mainly as a result of the 18 percent rise of the unit value in the European market, according to the report of the Prices and Markets Observatory of the Andalusian Council of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment.
The report points out that the monthly trend of exports to the European market is comparable to that of the previous season, although in higher volumes until December and lower since March. Oranges have accounted for 74 percent of all citrus exports during the first 11 months of the campaign.
Mandarin exports have been reduced by eleven percent in volume and only five percent in value, mainly as a result of the seven percent increase in their unit value in the European market. The monthly trend of exports to the European market has been similar to that of previous campaigns, despite achieving a significantly higher value in October.
Lemon exports have been reduced by 29 percent in volume but increased by 18 percent in value, mostly as a result of the 66 percent increase in their unit value in the European market, which has led to a 21 percent increase in the value of EU exports (and a 38 percent rise of the unit value in the non-EU market). The monthly trend of exports to the European market is similar to that of the previous season, although significant declines were observed in the months of November and January and from May onwards.
Grapefruit exports have fallen by 18 percent in volume, but have increased by 13 percent in value. The monthly trend of exports to the European market is different from that of past campaigns. In general, grapefruit exports are the least representative of all citrus fruits, accounting for 1.7 percent of the total exports of Andalusian citrus in the first eleven months of the campaign.
