Israel: Custom-free imports failing to decrease prices

After a customs-free import, put in place a few days ago in Israel, prices for cucumbers and zucchinis remain high. Wholesale market cucumber prices were NIS 7.5 per kilo yesterday as prices of vegetables sky-rocketed due to the dry weather experienced in November.

The opening of the market for customs-free imports was expected to lower prices but could still take time to see the effects of the change. Zucchini prices also soared to NIS 7.5 per kilo. Another vegetable with a particularly high price is cauliflower, priced at NIS 7 per kilo. Along with the increased price of these, eggplants and butternut squash may see the same fate as shortages are expected in the near future.
