In light of this, Pilati feels the work carried out by Assomela and Ferrara's CSO, together with the Ministry for Agricultural Policy, to find new markets in Asia, such as Vietnam and China is very important. In India, Italian apples are already available thanks to Consorzio.

In addition to diversifying destinations, varietal innovation is also important. Tastier varieties are needed to meet consumer demands. Consorzio La Trentina is also among those who will start cultivating the Opal variety.
What truly makes the difference, though, is the capability of pursuing a clear objective, a characteristic that seems well developed in such an evolved sector like the Trentino Alto Adige apple sector and which was well presented at Interpoma. "We have been taking part in the fair since 2002. One of the reasons behind its success is the fact that it stuck with its initial objective of focusing only on apples, without considering the numbers. When one is sure an idea is good, it is crucial not to lose the way."
He also added that such a complex and advanced world like that of apple cultivation does not need to have a fair every year. "There are a lot of apples cultivated all over the world. Interpoma provides a clear indication that producing high-quality fruit and related activities is the only way to remain competitive."
Consorzio La Trentina is also investing in the relaunch of plums from Dro, a PDO fruit typical of the territory.
