Weihai port detects mealybug

Recently, the Inspection and Quarantine Bureau of Weihai customs discovered and quarantined a large infection of the dangerous Dysmicoccus Neobrevipes from a traveller who was carrying rambutan. This is the first time that the Weihai port has come across this type of dangerous parasite. The batch of rambutan has already been destroyed and buried according to regulations.

It is reported that the Dysmicoccus Neobrevipes, or grey pineapple mealybug, is mainly found in pineapple, custard apples, citrus fruit, bananas, Japanese bananas and pomelo rambutan, more specifically. It mostly grows on the parts of these plants that are close to the ground, like leaves, stems, roots, flowers and the fruit. This mealybug is spread through pineapple blight and often causes the roots of the host plant to wither and die.
