Turkish pears and quinces on their way to Holland

Bursa, Northwest Turkey, has started to export pears and quinces to Holland through the government-owned company, Tarım A.Ş which already exports black figs to Germany and peppers to Holland.

The local municipality has a number of projects to support farmers in the area, including the setting up specialized facilities and marketing. It is through the municipality that the pear and quince export market was widened to Holland.

“Exporting pears and quinces to Europe is a first for Turkey and we will continue to support our farmers. It is also the first time that a municipality has established an agricultural company in the way we did,” said Mayor of Bursa Municipality, Recep Altepe.

Bursa is famous for its “Santa Maria” and “Deveci” pears.
