The retailer Lidl is strongly oriented towards strategic partnerships with Greek producers, not only to strengthen the Greek production, but also because it considers that Greek products reach very high quality standards and guarantee the sale of excellent quality and tasty products to Greek consumers.
It is worth noting that 80% of the chain's turnover in fruits and vegetables comes from strictly selected Greek products.
One of the most typical examples of careful selection is the collaboration of Lidl with the Agricultural Cooperative of Zagora, which produces apples that are shipped to and sold at Lidl stores.
The process, which is followed from the fruit's harvest until it arrives at Lidl's stores, involves strict post-harvest management, with quality control, storage in cold stores, pre-sorting and packaging.
The aim of such measures is to maintain the quality of the products at the highest level and ensure the supply of excellent quality and tasty products to Greek consumers.
For this reason Lidl Greece selects its partners very carefully. The Agricultural Cooperative of Zagora, for instance, is one of the oldest cooperatives, set up 100 years ago, in 1916. The Agricultural Cooperative of Zagora produces its high quality apples under a protected designation of origin.
