Argentina decrease in blueberries exports down to sharp fall in price
Blueberries have been facing a critical situation in recent weeks, as the oversupply of this fruit and a stagnant consumption has caused prices to decrease significantly. These conditions are particularly evident in the United States, where prices were high at the beginning of the campaign and where importers now have an oversupply of fruit.
(ABC) conducted an internal consultation among its most representative partners to explore in greater detail the situation so that they could better inform producers about it. "Everybody agreed that, given the considerable drop in prices, exports by air will decrease to 30% this week. Additionally, if the situation does not improve, the decrease in exports will probably continue in the coming weeks," said Carlos Stabile, a representative of ABC.
"The situation is so bad that Tucuman, which had scheduled a total of 14 charter flights for the week 43, only performed 3. In numbers, this means that Tucuman only exported 700 of the 2,700 tons it had estimated it would export this week. The higher quality fruit remaining will be shipped in refrigerated containers to different parts of Europe and the UK, and the rest will be harvested directly for the industry," Stabile said.
