Revenues of organic farmers increased by almost 10%

In 2015, unlike previous years, the farms profited from the increased prices of vegetables and potatoes.

The better price levels of organic vegetables and potatoes were mainly due to low yields. For example, the vegetable yield was 7% lower, while the acreage expanded by 2%. At the end of 2015 about 24,700 farms cultivated an area of almost 1.1 million hectares. The total surface increased by 6.5%. The largest areas in organic farming are in the regions Saarland (13.1%), Hessen (11%) and Brandenburg (10.3%).
