Luna Toscana introduces innovative products to the market

"We started our company thinking about the final users. As consumers and as mothers we felt our demands were not being met," explains Tuscan entrepreneur, Luna Aliboni, talking about the start of her company.

Together with her partner Daniela, Luna spent the business' initial phase focusing on market research, certification and fundraising. "We were practically inactive during the first year because we wanted to start from a strong base. We asked ourselves what were the specific aspects of each single market, so much so that currently 80% of our turnover comes from foreign markets."

"Having an Anglo Saxon approach helped me in tackling things pragmatically, even though there were many difficult times. We did not have public financing at the beginning and the path we chose is an expensive one, especially since we wanted to make a product that was truly healthy - like a grandmother's recipe - but on an industrial scale. We had to invest in research, innovation, patents and certifications."

Patents are a feather in the cap of this innovative company, which aims at issuing one a year over the next five years. In March 2017, for example, a new and completely innovative range will be introduced in cooperation with a packaging company.

What characterises all Luna Toscana products is the fact that they are all innovative and fill a gap in the market.

One of the ranges is called Fresco Giorno - it is an extra preserve made with 100% Italian certified fresh fruit. No added sugar, no pectin, preservatives and colourings and gluten free. It is just non-pasteurised fresh fruit with a 30-day expiry date suitable even for infants.

The raw material is supplied by AOP Luce. Only second category fruit, harvested by hand, is used and processing occurs within 48 hours of harvesting.

The other range is called 24 Mesi (24 months, its expiration date) - extra preserves made with 100% certified Italian fresh fruit in glass jars and which can be pasteurised up to 50 times.

Currently, the company can produce 6 million jars a year without compromising on its philosophy, i.e. offering a healthy produce on an industrial scale at a price affordable by everyone, especially families with children.

"We have been the first ones to do something like this in Europe. At the moment, we are studying new types of organic and biodegradable packaging to prolong the shelf-life of our products". In the future, there will be a new facility as well as the acquisition of 200 hectares in Tuscany to meet the increasing demand.

The fruit is all cultivated in orchards with the GLOBAL G.A.P. and IFS certifications. The processing facility complies with all IFS, HACCP and FDA regulations.
