Difficult moment for onions
It's not a particularly good moment for the commercialisation of onions. According to an operator, demand is lower than last year, partly because of the higher temperatures, which do not favour consumption. In terms of quality, there is a lot of very average produce available.

The situation does not look better for exports, as demand for Italian onions is slow, even in countries like Germany, where quantities of domestic produce are low due to diseases. They are probably sourcing onions from Spain, where production is rather abundant this year.
Of course all these elements have an effect on prices, which are quite low. Producers are paid even less than 10 eurocents per kg, and packed white onion prices are below 40 eurocents per kg. In addition, it seems many producers have started to pack their own produce, keeping prices down.
