Russia has already lifted the restrictions on the supply of products from Egypt; however, this did not apply to the importation of potatoes.
Restrictions on the import of fruits and vegetables from Egypt had been introduced on 22 September, following the discovery in vegetables and fruits of dangerous pests.
On 26 September, a delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture of Egypt visited Moscow and presented a plan to eliminate the said violations.
Deliveries of all crops, except potatoes, were then permitted subject to the Egyptian side meeting the phytosanitary requirements imposed by Russia.
The issue of the supply of potatoes will be decided in October-November 2016, when a Russian delegation of experts is expected to visit Egypt to assess the effectiveness of the measures adopted to ensure Egyptian potato shipments comply with all Russian phytosanitary requirements. During the visit, the protocol for the export of potatoes from Egypt to Russia will be reviewed.
Egypt is one of the Russian Federation's largest fruit and vegetable suppliers. Last year, 522 thousand tonnes were imported, of which 307,000 tonnes corresponded to citrus fruits.
