Increasing demand for anti-insect nets

Weather anomalies, bacteria and parasites often damage fruit and vegetable crops, so much so that nets are increasingly needed to safeguard them.

Corradi Protection Systems, was established in 2014 as an evolution of "Corradi Corrado", founded 50 years earlier. It specialises in the design and installation of protection nets and provides technical assistance.

The company, run by Corrado Corradi and his sons Simone and Andrea, provides effective solutions to protect crops with various options for orchards, vineyards and vegetable crops.

FreshPlaza interviewed Simone Filippo Corradi, who explained that the company works with final clients as well as with cooperatives, consortia and POs. "We have always believed in cooperating with suppliers and other professionals to meet our clients' needs."

Corradi Protection Systems mainly design anti-hail nets for orchards. "We usually supply anti-rain nets for cherries and soft fruit, while hail is the main problem for apples and pears. Recently we have also been receiving a lot of orders for anti-insect nets.

As regards new parasites and diseases, Simone says that "I believe they developed because the climate changed. The brown marmorated stink bug, for example, now affects all of Italy, and Psa damaged thousands of hectares because of the higher temperature and humidity levels. We try to intervene before the insect strikes creating a microclimate to impede its proliferation."

Corradi works mainly in northern Italy. "But recently producers from Puglia, Calabria and Campania also got in touch to protect apricots, peaches, tangerines and table grapes. Then the Arab Emirates, Eastern Europe (Romania for cherries, Greece, Bulgaria, Moldova), and North Africa have shown their interest for our fruit protection systems."

It takes approximated 260 hours per hectare to install nets, though it depends on the type of net and equipment. "The objective is to install the best systems developed specifically for each client, even though it is not easy in places such as Sicily, where orange groves are not planted on even ground and there are different varieties. This is why we are continuously working on new solutions."

Corradi Protection Systems "stands out thanks to its professionalism, technology, after-sales service and value for money. All our systems are certificated and entirely made in Italy."
