Start of new apple season in Bologna

"The commercialisation of apples is proceeding quite slowly. Prices are not great for all types. Apples from Alto Adige are now becoming available at higher quotations, but nothing is changing for local ones," explains Novafrut owner Renzo Mainetti. He reports prices on the Bologna wholesale market of 60 cents and €1.30-1.50/kg.

"So far, the most popular varieties were the early ones, like Royal Gala. Now demand is picking up for Stark and Golden Delicious and Fuji also shows a growing trend. The fact is that consumers are still eating peaches, so nothing will change until temperatures drop."

"The apple season has just started, so the situation will get livelier in around two weeks' time, because the peach season will end."
