Richard Bevelander, Van Dommele:

“Good demand for Spanish tangerines”

Van Dommele started the Spanish tangerine season with the first Okitsus of the Famisa brand. “Quality of the tangerines is good, and prices are at a fairly reasonable level, provided that quality is constant. Supply consists of all sizes, but the share of small sizes is larger,” Richard Bevelander says.

“We expect to continue with Okitsus until mid-November, and we have daily arrivals. After that we will switch to Clemenules, also of the Famisa brand. We also started the first Spanish Clementines under our own brand No 5 and Marie Jose. That is also a great trade,” Bevelander notes. Van Dommele supplies its national customers from their locations, Breda and Hedel, daily.

“We expect a reasonably good Spanish citrus season. The South African tangerine season is finishing. Those prices are traditionally much higher, and I hear quality is decreasing, resulting in many customers probably switching to Spanish tangerines,” Bevelander expects. “We will also receive oranges from Marie Jose and Hartenboer again later in the season. We are ready for that.”
