Re-usable, returnable and cost efficient

Short shipper bin launched for fragile fruit varieties

Earlier this month, Macro Plastics launched the Short Shipper bin. The bin is part of the family of Hybrid Bins, a line that was launched last year. The ultra-light Short Shipper is the compact version of the taller Shipper Bin. It is shorter and intended for more delicate fruit, like stone fruit, soft citrus, kiwi fruit, pear varieties and tropical fruits.

Easy to disassemble
Both the Shipper Bin (Hybrid 44P-FV) and Short Shipper (Hybrid 44C-FV) are re-usable. “It is a revolutionary plastic bin,” says Hugo Ramos with Macro Plastics. “It assembles in seconds to offer a great bin solution for handling, storing, or shipping fresh produce.” Ventilation can be configured for the specific application or can be completely solid. When empty, the bin can be easily disassembled within 30 seconds and nested for empty storage or efficient freight. “There is hardly any labor involved in disassembling these bins compared to disposing of wood bins or cardboard boxes,” mentioned Ramos.

Cost efficient
Both bins are returnable and have high return ratios. The taller Shipper Bin has a return ratio of 5:1 and the Short Shipper has a ratio of 6:1. This means that the amount of empty Shipper Bins that fill up 1 container, would be filled with 5 containers of wood bins. When it comes to the Short Shipper, empty wood bins take up 6 times more space.

These are the most cost competitive plastic bulk bins in the market, and their shipping efficiency makes them the most economical shipping solution.

Sale versus lease
About 70 percent of the bins are sold to the customer, but some customers prefer to lease them. Macro Plastics also leases the bins through 3rd party logistics providers who take care of all the logistics for their customers.

In February of last year, the Shipper product line received an award at the Ag show in Tulare for being in the top 10 of most innovative products in agribusiness; by customer request, the company has now launched this shorter size.
