This week's import market

China: Imports reinvigorated, Spanish plums on sale

Last week was the Mid Autumn festival holiday in China, which was preceded by a sales peak. Earlier this week, the import market in Shanghai had cooled down. But in the last few days it has bounced up again. Many types of products are surging up in different degrees.

During this season in the Southern hemisphere, orange sales are continuously rising. In addition, this is the end of the season and the fresh Australian oranges have risen from 300 RMB to 330 RMB to 340 RMB. South African oranges are currently also keeping a high position at 170 RMB per case.

American grapes, going on sale at the same time as Chinese grapes, are present in smaller quantities than last year. The sold quantities aren't as big as usual. According to analyses of the import market, the main reason is still the competition with Chinese grapes. They are cheaper than imported varieties and the taste of the Chinese grapes has shown a stable upward trend in the last few years. As such, the grapes satisfy the needs of Chinese middle and high end consumers, so they satisfy the demand on the market for imported grapes to a certain degree.

Apart from conventional products, plums from Spain are now also reaching the market for selling. Since they are shipped by sea, the plums are still quite unripe when they are harvested so the taste is not yet ideal when they reach the Chinese market. At the same time, the plums also compete with similar Chinese plums, so the sales are slow as a whole. But because the ripeness of the plums will gradually improve, the taste will also get better. The reception on the market will have to be considered in a few days.
