China pomelo exports to EU might take hit
Wen Mindong
Increased competition
“Over the past few years, year on year, honey pomelo export volumes have been increasing, and export prices have come down. The price decrease is partly caused by a changing market environment, and partly because more export companies have entered this market. Some even call it a price war. Export has started this season, and I expect prices to be under pressure again.”

Dicloran
“During growth, bags are wrapped around pomelos to protect the peel against damages and spots. There are rumours going around, that some of the bags produced by one of the larger bag producers contain too high limits of the fungicide dicloran, and as such do not meet export standards. Dicloran, if surpassing certain levels, is a substance that is banned by the EU. If this is true, then one in three pomelo exporters might face the situation that their crop will not be able to access the EU. This could seriously disrupt the export market this year. We have checked our bags and spoken with our suppliers, and we do not have this problem. We are able to continue our exports to Europe and our crop meets all European requirements.”
Flourish Pomelo
“Pinghe is perfect for pomelo production. The land is slightly elevated and the soil quality is strong. In addition, we have managed to implement hands-on management from planting to production, processing and export. Because we can achieve effective control, we are able to meet demands in export markets. Our company was established in 2007. Our pomelo, domestic and abroad, is sold under the Flourish brand.”
