Tottus began to stock up on fruit and vegetables, harvested by producers in the north and south of the country, through a direct purchase programme that allows them to improve the quality of their offer.
"We are the first retailer that directly deals with farmers and producers. This benefits producers because they get to sell their fruits and vegetables, as well as customers who get to buy products that have a good quality, are fresh, and are in good conditions," Tottus stated.
According to Tottus, the 350 producers that participating in the programme get paid more for their crops than they are usually paid. "We avoid having contracts with intermediaries who abuse wholesale prices," they stated.
"The producers bring their products to the distribution centre themselves. There, the products undergo a duration and quality process. This relationship will allow producers to receive a better price for their goods," they said.
The supermarket is purchasing a total of 700 varieties of fresh and healthy products this way. Tottus is working with the Aders, Forjando, Apromalpi, Yanachaga Chemillén, and Anpro Associations. They collect the products in different cities, such as Catacaos, Sullana, Chiclayo, Casma, Canete, Chincha, Ica, Arequipa, and Oxapampa.
