Mexican avocados from Michoacan preferred by Chinese consumers

"As the direct Chinese supplier for Viocar LLC, we started to supply premium, Mexican avocados from Michoacan." Ms. Mao Wei from Shanghai Viocar Imp&Exp Trade Co.,Ltd explained.

"Viocar LLC is headquartered in California and has its own avocado plantations in Mexico's Michoacan state, which allows us to carry out quality control from the produce origin more effectively.

It was in 2014 that Viocar LLC set up its Shanghai branch, and one year later, we started the avocado business. So far our sales keep increasing, and the two following factors contributed to this: first of all, consumer understanding of the nutritional value of avocados has been increasing dramatically; secondly, upon the receipt of orders, we will inform our staff in Mexico for avocado picking, packing and transportations to China as early as possible. This helps us win more loyal customers and a high brand reputation."

"In terms of logistics, avocados come to their end-season between May and July, therefore they are very easy to get ripe. To guarantee their freshness, we use only air transport, while in other seasonal periods, sea shipment is more frequently used. In general, the sea shipment duration from Mexico to China is around 20 days. After these avocados are shipped to Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Shanghai, they will be further shipped on to large wholesale fruit markets in various regions, which will be subsequently distributed to well-known supermarket chains, fine fruit shop and fruit vendors, etc. across the country. "

"This year, between July 4th and 15th, a farmer's strike took place in plantation farms in Mexico, which caused some delays to the avocado's shipment to China. In terms of pricing, the avocado price keeps increasing in Mexico. After the beginning of July, a large number of Chinese buyers went to Mexico for avocado imports to China, which, as a consequence, led to an over supply, compared with the market demand. This lowered the price position of avocado in China. It is estimated that its price will shortly go down in October, but then its price will increase steadily until the Chinese spring festival."

"In comparison with other Mexican suppliers, we have a higher market reputation, and thanks to our farms in Mexico, we can supply avocado all the year around to satisfy customers' needs. It is true that currently we face competition from Peru and Chile. And the avocado prices from these two countries are sold lower thanks to the duty-free agreement with China, but we believe that the avocados quality will speak for itself and the taste of Mexican avocados are much preferred by the Chinese."
