Friday 23 September: Apple Day

Apple Day will take place on Friday 23 September 2016. Fruit producers hand out free apples in more than 30 locations in Switzerland.
The event is organised by the Swiss Fruit Association, together with producer organisations from the cantons and regions. In more than 30 public locations, such as train stations, fruit farmers give free apples to the public. Furthermore, supermarket Coop gives all the shoppers a free apple on 23 September. In total the retailer will hand out about 1 million apples. The restaurants Marché and Gamag and Prodega/Growa will also participate in the Apple Day. 

It is the 24th Apple Day. With a consumption of 16 kilos, per person, apples are the most popular fruit in Switzerland states the Swiss Fruit Association.
