Memorandum of understanding between Italmercati and WMap

Ukraine is slowly recovering from the conflict that beset the country in 2014. The economy is improving and companies are looking to the international market once again.

The memorandum of understanding signed by Italian market network Italmercati and Ukrainian market union WMap is therefore of the utmost importance. It was officially signed by Italmercati President Fabio Massimo Pallottini and WMap President Roman Fedyshyn and its objective is to support and facilitate trade.

The Verona and Lviv markets will become the logistics platforms for incoming and outgoing produce. There are 1,400 km between Verona and Lviv, passing through Slovenia and Hungary. A lorry takes 18-36 hours to cover such a distance, depending on customs checks in Chop on the Ukraine-Hungary border.

Ukraine imports a lot of produce from Europe. Spain is the main supplier but there is a lot of interest for the Italian produce. The Lviv market processes 1,500 of fruit and vegetables (i.e. around 75 20-ton lorries) a day.

Italmercati and Wmap undertook to cooperate and exchange a monthly price analysis as well as other information that could favour trade and to promote business sessions.

The memorandum will be operative within the next few months and the first results will already be apparent at the beginning of the next year.
