Alonso Salcedo, of Añawi Export:

"Europe really appreciates Peruvian mangoes"

The Peruvian Kent mango season will kick off next December and will run until March. This year, Peru expects a good quality, as the weather conditions have been ideal for cultivation. The low temperatures at night have been really beneficial for the flowering, and the weather is expected to remain favourable, so last season's production volume should be widely exceeded this year.

Añawi Export produces exotic fruits in Peru and exports them to Europe. "From December, we will be exporting mangoes by air. Air shipments are our speciality and we look for our products to reach the tables of consumers in the shortest time possible so that they can appreciate the true flavour of products ripened naturally," explains Alonso Salcedo, General Manager of Añawi Export.

Peru is fashionable
"Peruvian products have become fashionable because of their high quality," affirms Salcedo. "The world appreciates the Peruvian production; we want to offer them a wider range and not just the best-known products." Besides mangoes and avocados, which are popular products, Añawi Export produces and exports other exotic fruits, such as passion fruit, tree tomato and physalis, with the aim of promoting them as ready-to-eat fresh fruits. "Our products do not take longer than four days to reach the consumer's table after leaving our lands," adds Salcedo.

Europe
The main market which the company aims to reach this season is France. "France highly appreciates Peruvian mangos and our products are of premium quality," continues the exporter. "We have trained staff to select the best fruits and we harvest them at the right point of maturity to ensure they arrive in excellent condition. We love what we do and that's why we care about delivering quality products."

The company's goal is to supply all of Europe. "This year, we seek to ship around 2,000 boxes of Kent mangoes per week to the European market and we are committed to send them the freshest fruit in the market. We currently work with Spain, but we want direct access to other countries, like Italy, France or Germany and not to rely on re-exports."

Macfrut

To this end, Añawi Export will attend the Macfrut trade fair, to be held in Italy from 14 to 16 September. Visitors will be able to find them in the Peruvian hall. "We are working with PromPeru, which is offering Peruvian export companies the opportunity to attend this fair," explains the exporter.

Organic certification

Añawi Export has an organic certification for its avocados and plans to progressively have the rest of its products certified, so that the entire production can be marketed as organic.
