According to the latest data from the Department of Agriculture, among the 28 vegetable varieties that were inspected last week (during 29th August to 4th September), 24 of them faced a price increase. To be more specific, the average weekly price is 4.11 Yuan per kilo, a week-on-week increase of 8.2%, and this is the 9th week in a row that vegetable prices have kept increasing. As for the reasons - it is because the summer season vegetables are delisted out of the market, and the autumn vegetable supplies are still not sufficient.
This year's weather conditions have been abnormal compared to last year, therefore the market listing and delisting seasons of summer and autumn vegetables arrived ahead of time. As a consequence, the recent vegetable supply has been quite tight, even for some very common vegetable varieties," explained the Department of Agriculture. Meanwhile, the bad weather during the flood season resulted in a further price increase.
