Peru: Pineapple producers from Pangoa will export to Spain

Producers from the Association of Pineapple Producers from VRAEM Pangoa will benefit from the pineapple exports sent to countries, such as Spain, under the Tibana El Sabor del Sol brand developed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

According to projections, the producers will export more than 120 tons of Golden MD2 pineapples to Spain, the first destination, by December. However, the association is expected to achieve an export of 500 tons of pineapple in 2017.

In turn, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Eduardo Ferreyros, said that exports to Spain would improve the income of the 80 producers that make up the association. He noted that the direct shipment of the products, under a brand of their own, offered a number of advantages in the promotion and development of production in the region.

It's worth noting that this product has been certified with the Global GAP certification, which attests to this fruit's high quality production. Producers expect to have the support of MINCETUR so that they can get the organic certifications required by international consumers.

70% of the pineapple production nationwide is grown in the region of Junin, which makes it the largest producer of pineapple in the country. Meanwhile, the producers of the Association of Pineapple Producers from VRAEM Pangoa have been growing this fruit in an area of 60 hectares. The pineapples will be shipped to Spain by air in six-unit boxes.
