China becomes 17th member of World Apple and Pear Association

Opening of 2016 International Fruit Conference

Today, the International Fruit Conference organised by the China Chamber of Commerce of Foodstuffs and Native Produce (CFNA) and the China Fruit Marketing Association (CFMA) was officially opened today in the ancient city of Xi'an.

During the opening ceremony, the CFNA and the World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA) signed a memorandum and an agreement to enter the association. This marks the official entrance of China as the 17th member country and the 21st member of the World Apple and Pear Association.

CFNA and WAPA sign the agreement and China becomes the 17th WAPA member country.

The Polish Apple exhibition stand, the first batch of Polish apples is about to be imported to China in next two months.

WAPA was founded in 2001. It is a professional business organisation formed by the main apple and pear producing countries. The headquarters are located in Brussels. The association provides professional data and guidance for apple and pear industries worldwide. Current members of the association include the US, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, France, Chilli, Brazil and others.

This agreement attracted many leading figures both in the Chinese and foreign fruit and vegetable industries. Zespri as the main sponsor built a large exhibition stand next to the conference area and brought green and gold Zespri kiwis for all visitors to taste. Secondary sponsors of the conference are Goodfarmer Group and the Joy Wing Mao Group. They too brought representative products to the conference.

Because the conference is held in Xi'an at an important production region of Chinese apples and kiwis, many local leading figures in the industry also participate in the conference, such as the Haisheng Group, Shaanxi Jifeng Fruit, Shaanxi Huasheng Group and the Shaanxi Hengtong Juice Group, etc.

These days the conference centres around lectures. The lecturers mostly come from the Chinese fruit and vegetable organisations and large-scale fruit and vegetable companies. For the content of the lectures, please visit the website of the China Fruit organisation.
