New company for Frankfurt airport's perishable transport

On September 1, the logistics company Thermotraffic is taking over fresh-to-door transportation for Lufthansa Cargo, as the new cooperation partner of 7Days Foodservice GmbH. This contract includes the handling and carrying out of all fresh transportation ordered by Lufthansa Cargo.

“The contract is another important step for the development of Thermotraffic’s airfreight-related services” Falko Thomas, managing director of Thermotraffic GmbH says. “The location at Frankfurt airport is thus going to gain importance in the future and will cater even more to customer requirements.”

Thermotraffic has rented an office at the Perishable Center at Frankfurt airport. From there, all incoming orders are coordinated and supervised in a 3 shift system. Quick handling and prompt transportation is thus ensured by Thermotraffic until delivery at the consignees. Especially for fresh-to-door business, when perishable goods are being transported, this 24/7 service is of utmost importance.

Directly after arrival at the Perishable Center Frankfurt, the goods are taken over by Thermotraffic and then distributed to their consignees in compliance with the requirements. The perishable goods such as fruits, vegetables or cut flowers are transported on pallets or special airfreight containers. By employing trailers with roller bed systems, Thermotraffic reduces loading times. In addition to this, Thermotraffic deploys two drivers on longer distances to guarantee delivery on time.

The products are transported in a temperature-controlled environment, which is monitored. They are usually distributed directly to their consignees. Destinations are all over Europe, but the markets in Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, England, France, Germany and Switzerland are at the center of attention.

Thermotraffic currently expects an annual transport volume of 14,000 tons from the order of 7Days Foodservice GmbH/Lufthansa Cargo. If required, this volume can be increased.

Due to this new order and the accompanying increase in capacity, Thermotraffic is going to continue investing in a modern fleet and a substantial investment in special equipment. Furthermore, three new employees are going to be hired for Thermotraffic’s branch office at Frankfurt airport.

By taking on this new order, Thermotraffic is going to further expand their airfreight-related services.
