Moldova doubled the export of fruit and sharply reduced supply of vegetables

According to the director of the National Agency for the Protection of Food (ANSA), Mr George Gaber, in the current season Moldova has managed to increase its global exports of agricultural products.

Fruit exports have doubled. At the beginning of August, these totalled 108 thousand tonnes, compared to 59 tonnes in 2015. Exports of table grapes have nearly tripled and increased from 4.8 tonnes in 2015 to 11.5 thousand tonnes this year. Meanwhile, peach exports amounted to 2.8 tonnes and plum shipments totalled 3 tonnes.

On the opposite side of the scale, vegetable exports have recorded a sharp decline, reaching 2.3 thousand tonnes in 2016 compared to 12.5 thousand tonnes in 2015.

Meanwhile, the country's fruit and vegetable exports to the EU have remained almost at the same level as in the previous year, with 1.03 million tonnes compared to 1.09 million tonnes, while shipments to the CIS countries increased from 36.7 thousand tonnes in 2015 to 63.3 thousand tonnes this year.
