Angola: Investing in potato production

In the Condê commune, coastal Cuanza Sul province, Angola, the administrative authorities plan to increase potato production by investing in individuals and smallholder farmers.

The administration is working to acquire potato seeds in order to empower the smallholder farmers in the production of this crop, José Augusto, the communal administrator, said to the press on Wednesday 17 August.

With this programme, he said, the commune aims to exceed the around 80 tons of potatoes currently produced by the smallholder farmers and turn the region into one of the largest producing communes.

"It will be a great incentive to reduce hunger and fight against poverty in the commune", said the administrator.
