Winter jujube experiences sharp price fluctuations in Dali county

In the past, winter jujube was always considered more as a seasonal agricultural product than a fruit variety. The change came last year, when winter jujube sales on an e-commerce platform surged. Thanks to the e-commerce promotion, its sales hit a record high, and was then considered as a type of fruit for consumers. "Moreover, the customers' repurchase rate was really high." Explained winter jujube growers Mr. Dang from Dali County.

For a lot of consumers, Southern China is renowned for its lychee fruit, while Northern China for its winter jujube. This type of fruit is large in size, has thin skin and a crisp bite. 95% of this fruit can be consumed.

The good sales last year stimulated the winter jujube plantation in Dali county, and the direct impact of a higher supply volume can be reflected during this year's greenhouse winter jujube sales."This year the sunlight greenhouse winter jujube came to the market as of Mid June, and its price range is between 100 to 120 Yuan/kilo. In comparison, its price last year was 140-160 Yuan/kilo."

"Due to the hot weather condition this year, the jujube's mature time from the greenhouse, steel greenhouses and plastic greenhouses all coincide. Winter jujube from sunlight greenhouse first came to the market at a price of 100-120 Yuan/kilo, and then followed by the listing of jujube from all steel greenhouses, its price dropped directly to 60 Yuan/kilo. Recently the jujubes from plastic greenhouses are listed on the market, its price continued to drop below 30 Yuan/kilo. Fruit distributors from across China swarmed to Dali county for stock purchase, which led to its price increase to over 40 Yuan/kilo."

"Now comes the listing season of plastic greenhouse jujube, and it looks very beautiful and tastes very sweet. We estimate that the supply can last until the end of October. In comparison to winter jujubes from other regions, Dali county's winter jujube comes to the market earlier, which means less competitions during the same period. We hope in the future, the winter jujube from our Dali county has more stable quality, and they can enter markets of other provinces with the help of traditional sales channel and e-commerce/wechat shops, in the hopes that more and more consumers will taste winter jujube."
