Exclusively domestic onion supply for Russia

Russian onion production has been steadily increasing during the last 2 years which has meant that the potatoes on the market between June through April are almost 100% domestic.

More and more suppliers are using modern techniques and a contact from a major Russian supermarket chain said that they are pleased with the changes and the quality they have been seeing this year.

Domestic production is going well and there have been no issues with supplier and buyers, with more than enough onions available on the market. During the rest of the year, from April through June, supply is shared with Egyptian production.

The retatiler said that the year round demand is stable and there is virtually no difference between the seasons.

Onions are available both loose and packed, with average packages weighing around 0.5 or 1 kilo. The most popular variety is the Dayton and the average price falls around 16 RUR ($0.25).
