"If bought in the morning, it's with customers in the evening"

Over the course of the years, the company has grown fast. Mariette says, “Jos and I used to be chicory producers, but the trade wasn’t that good in Belgium. Then we started looking for German wholesalers to find customers for our products. There was not a lot of interest in chicory at the beginning, they primarily asked for lettuce and tomatoes.” Nowadays, Gemex supplies an increasing assortment. “Our customers ask for new products, again and again, so we supplied more specialities. The customers can order the complete assortment of Belgian fruit and vegetables. It costs more time to compile and supply the pallets, but we like to do that for our customers.”

Mariette, Jos, and their sons, have built good relationships with their customers over the years. “We have a special bond with our German customers, the correspondence is always pleasant. We are there for our customers and of course, the right price is important.” Mario and Sven are following in the footsteps of their parents. “Our parents have built something beautiful together and we want to continue this. The most important thing is to maintain good relationships.”

Gemex delivers the products throughout Germany. “We transport our products with 10 of our own trucks. We are near the border, so we can guarantee our customers that every day the delivery is as fresh as possible. If it was bought it in the morning, it is with our customers in the evening.” Mariette adds, “An important strength of ours is that we are flexible. We are a family business and we can do everything ourselves. Jos and I have built everything from the beginning and our sons have learned that from us. If necessary, we could work the forklift truck ourselves.”
