France: Apple growing agribusiness acquirers packer and shipper
Group Pomanjou, a French agribusiness and apple grower, is acquiring Les Vergers Launay; a grower, packer, and shipper based in Saint-Paterne-Racan in the Indre et Loire region. Thanks to this merger, both companies are hoping to build a future based on operational synergies.
James Launay - President of Les Vergers Launay
Les Vergers Launay, with its range of packaging options and apple varieties, should enable its customers to widen their varietal range thanks to the HoneyCrunch® and Juliet® apple varieties, grown in Group Pomanjou's orchards. The opposite is also true for the Choupette® apple variety for which James Launay is the first marketer in France. He will also be able to benefit from Group Pomanjou's expertise for exports in Europe as well overseas. In addition, the Group's subsidiaries (Cardell, Pominter, Comimpex, and Pomanjou International) growing and selling areas' geographical complementarity will enable Les Vergers Launay to extend the marketing period for its current product range and to satisfy its customers' expectations.
Building on its commitment towards the French apple growing industry, Group Pomanjou wishes to accompany the organisation with its upcoming technical developments, especially with the Choupette® apple variety.
The difference regarding the tree growth methods ('arched' branch vs 'fruit wall') is offering a real opportunity for our R&D around apple growth. Furthermore, the merger enables them to catch a preview of future opportunities in terms of apple variety renewal in both companies' orchards; thanks to Group Pomanjou's investment towards varietal R&D.
