Ukraine: Fruit, veg prices up 7% last week

The prices of several fruits and vegetables in Ukraine have increased week-on-week. Problems with cucumber outputs have caused farm prices of the vegetable to grow by 35% week-on-week.

According to Fruit-Inform, Ukrainian growers have reported significant losses of their cucumber crop due to diseases, hot weather conditions and drought.

The Ukrainian market was also characterized by a shortage of supply of tomatoes last week; therefore, tomato prices have grown by 47% and reached a record high.

In addition, fresh berries and cherries also became more expensive in Ukraine. Due to a seasonal decrease in supply, sour cherry prices went up by 20%, while those fixed for currants and raspberries grew by 12.5% and 6%, respectively.

Meanwhile, the supply of apricots and peaches was growing thanks to more active shipments from domestic farms and Moldova. As a result, apricot prices went down by 14% in Ukraine last week, while peaches became 40% less expensive.

At the same time, prices of traditional vegetables were stable in the majority of cases. A negative price trend was observed only in the red bean segment due to shortage of supply and extremely low purchasing activity.
