Marcel Goud, Goud Biervliet:
“Smooth export, lower profits, but good quality onion sets”
“Onion sets are currently running smoothly. Demand is good from all my buyers for several destinations. We need to take care to dry the onions in time before we supply them,” says Marcel Goud of Goud Biervliet. “The new onion season already started much better than how the previous one ended. Price levels are stable. We can export a lot with these price levels, and that is why we can only hope that everyone keeps a level head, so we can up the pace. I feel quite positive right now.”
The strains Jetset, Jargo and Contado are currently being sold. Goud is very pleased with the quality of the onion sets. “We generally have access to beautiful onions. It has been a tense year because of the weather conditions. The onions are looking well, but the profits are much lower than we initially thought they would be. We had high expectations, but it will be a year of ordinary profits after all.”
