While the fruit is still safe in the tree and there are no substantial losses, it is uncertain when the harvest may be resumed and the delay of exports may have a significant impact on the market's development. "As soon as the rain stops, we can start harvesting again; the fruit is not lost, only delayed, and the number of containers to be shipped can change. Despite this variation, we trust balance will be achieved in different markets, with signs pointing to an improvement of prices and the trading conditions," reiterates Rodríguez.
"Prospects for the months of July and August are promising due to the transition to the "Flor Loca" of Mexico, which is opening a good marketing window for avocados from Peru and California in the American and European markets. It is important to take into account that, to date, Peru's prospects have been adjusted and it is very likely that, compared to last season, there won't be an increase of more than 5%. The weather conditions of the El Niño phenomenon directly affected the fruit growth, with an impact on the tonnage per hectare due to the predominance of smaller sizes," concluded the spokesperson.
