Record green asparagus season for Polish grower
The weather was really good for asparagus. Although there were some damages during the 2 days when temperatures dropped down to 3 degrees Celsius for a couple of days, with 3 to 4 tons freezing completely, it didn't cause any issues for the rest of the season.
The end of the asparagus season has brought in the season for bell peppers. Export started at the end of week 24 for white and green peppers, and exports for red, yellow and a limited amount of oranges are expected to start around the 10th of July.
In terms of production, it is early days, but as long as the summer weather cooperates, Andrzej expects the bell pepper volumes to be in line with last year. Peak season for peppers is August, so a lot could happen in the meantime.
Aubergine and zucchini production is also in full swing and started 2 weeks ago.
"We currently offer yellow and green-yellow mix of zucchini, along with the traditional green. We started with the yellow zucchini last year and after a popular reception and good sales, we are getting more demand for them from retailers. I think that consumers like them because of its thinner skin and delicate flavour, it is a bit sweeter than its green counterpart. It is also visually more appealing, with a rich colour that almost resembles a green apple." said Andrzej.
