Bi-colored apples program to focus on China and UAE

Chinese president visit to Poland marks deal for trade cooperation

Since the Russian embargo, Polish growers have had to find alternative markets for the export of their apples. In response, the Association of Polish Fruit and Vegetables Distributors 'Fruit Union' created a bi-colored apple program to create a cohesive combination of information and promotional activities.

Its main objective is to teach the markets in Asia and the Middle East about the different features and advantages of European bicoloured apples in terms of quality and flavor, as well as production methods. The group believes that with education, consumption and demand will follow.

According to Fruit Union President, Waldemar Zolcik, "The Chinese and UAE markets were the best ones, in our opinion, to focus on. Not to mention the Chinese potential by its size and UAE as a hub for all emirates and other markets in the east. We are convinced that both markets will receive our bicolored apples with enthusiasm."

Apple study tours in Poland for China and UAE
The programme has taken part in 6 major Chinese fairs and exhibitions since its inception and had their own stand during SIAL China, Asia Fruit Logistica and CHINA FVF, organized two of their own conferences during the second year of the programme accompanying Asia Fruit Logistica and CHINA FVF.

In United Arab Emirates the group had their own stand during WOP Dubai and have been present at Gulfood Dubai, WOP Dubai and the Dubai International Food and Safety Conference.

Study Tour for the UAE held in Poland during June, 2015.

Along with these events, bi-colored apples have also increased their promotional and advertising activities in both China and the UAE, using resources such as the internet, international press, as well as OOH (out-of-home advertising) throughout the programme together with various PR activities. The group has also organised trade meetings, trade visits, and study tours to Poland during each year of the programme (September/October) in for both countries.

Cooperation treaty between Poland and China
China president Xi Jinping attended a ceremony in Poland yesterday, together with Polish president Andrzej Duda, to welcome a freight train which arrived in Warsaw from China on Monday. The ceremony marked a deal for trade co-operation and both leaders expressed the hope that this is just the beginning of upgrading relations between China and Poland to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

The overland route by rail via Russia is quicker and brings goods directly into the heart of the continent, offering EU member Poland significant opportunities. With journeys of 11-14 days, transport by rail is twice as fast as sea transport and cheaper than air freight.

Trade with China brings great opportunity
"Thisis a huge opportunity and an alternative to all Polish food companies in the Russian embargo era. We are still in the beginning stages of learning and exploring the Chinese apple market, both in terms of requirements, but also in learning more about Chinese preferences. It is difficult to say which varieties will be the most popular, but we see great potential in varieties such as Idared, Jonagold, Gala Must, Gloster, Champion. We do know that Chinese consumers pay a high attention to the regularity of fruit delivery as well fragrance."

"Our programme has given us the necessary insight into the Chinese market during the last 1-1/2 years. We were told by participants in all of the different Chinese fairs, whether it be in Beijing, Shanghai or Hong Kong, that consumers in China are used to only red or green apple varieties. It is our goal to change that in the future." said Zolcik.
