Francisco Mena from the Trade Office of Ecuador in the UK

"UK market open for new products, flavours and ingredients"

“This is already the third year we were present during the London Produce Show. This year, three exporters were also present at our booth as well. The UK market is a market that is open to try new things, new products and flavors. The exhibition is small, but I believe that the right people visit the show. Professionals come along, which make it possible to obtain great contacts. It's good for the traditional fresh produce, but also for tropical and exotic products such as dragon fruit and golden berries”, starts Francisco Mena from the Trade Office of Ecuador in the United Kingdom.

Pro Ecuador is located in 31 countries all over the world. “We can be seen as business match makers. We support the exporters and importers in all product categories, as well as fresh produce such as bananas, pineapples, papaya, mango, pitaya and dragon fruit. Ecuador has an advantage because of the demographic position, since we are nearby the equator we benefit from the photosynthesis process. It benefits the taste, the sizes and color of the products, continues Francisco.

Besides promoting Ecuador and the Ecuadorian products during the London Produce Show, they are also present during the other food event in London. The event is named the Taste of London, which started yesterday, 15th June and takes place till the 19th of June. “This event is more focused on gastronomy, so we want to promote the Ecuadorian cuisine and the ingredients”, explains Francisco. “Restaurants, chefs and the end consumers are who we expect to meet and those are the people who we would like to experience the Ecuadorian food. Our project is called 'Exquisite Ecuador'. We will use chefs and collaborate with Tostado, an Ecuadorian restaurant located in the UK, to demonstrate the cuisine. Hopefully, we are able to reach the whole chain and create awareness for our products and ingredients.”
