Agricultural ministers are being introduced to an innovative supply of fruit and vegetables. Secretary of state Martijn van Dam (Economic Affairs) visited the expo Food to Be yesterday with European agricultural ministers in the Klokgebouw in Eindhoven. The exposition shows why the Netherlands is 'leading' in the area of agricultural innovation, using a number of themes, including 'Food to be Healthy'.
Secretary of state Martijn van Dam brought his European fellow ministers of agriculture to Eindhoven to show the hard work being done on the future of our food. The worlds of agriculture and innovation have been brought together in Eindhoven.
Innovative supply of fruit and vegetables
After the opening of the expo by Van Dam and the mayor of Eindhoven, Rob van Gijzel, Van Dam and his colleagues first visited the pavilion 'Food to be Healthy'. Here a number of members of GroentenFruit Huis presented a number of innovative products. Richard Schouten, director of GroentenFruit Huis, explained how the products contribute to the areas of health, sustainability, convenience and enjoyment.
The ministers of agriculture were introduces to the innovative red/yellow striped peppers 'Enjoya', by Harvest House. Cool Fresh played into sustainability with crownless pineapples. Van Nature showed convenience for the consumer with the Sooup! packets and Banken Champigons hooked into health and sustainability with champburgers and mushrooms with vitamin D. Vitacress Real contributed to a moment of pleasure for the consumer with their fresh herb packets 'Quality Tea Time'. Eosta used the occasion to bring the True Cost calculation of organic pears to the attentions of the agricultural ministers. The European agricultural ministers responded with interest to what was offered. The expo can be visited all week.
Stage for new technology
Food to be is an initiative of the ministry of Economic Affairs and the EIndhoven municipality. The expo is organised in the context of the Dutch EU chairmanship and the European agricultural council. With the theme 'Food to be' this expo is the first edition of the STEC; a national stage for the newest technology.
