TOP wants to invest in Russian onion cultivation

Onion company TOP from 's-Gravenpolder wants to invest in the (planting) onion cultivation in Penza. This shows from a publication on the Russian website www.penzanews.ru. Rien and Adrie Murre recently spoke about this to governor Ivan Berlozertsec of this region. Agriculture is traditionally the most lucrative business in this area and various foreign investors are already active. TOP doesn't just want to focus on the onion cultivation, but also on development of planting material.

Besides the planting onion cultivation in the Netherlands, TOP has been growing planting onions in France for years. The planting onions are supplied throughout Europe, Russia, USA and Canada. That demand from Russia can, driven by Putin's desire to be self sufficient, be given a huge impulse in the coming years. Penza is a town in Russia, capital of the eponymous Oblast, on the Volga plateau on the river Sura, around 600 km south eat of Moscow. "The demand for planting onions is guaranteed, not just in this region, but also in our neighbouring regions, Saratov, Samara, Tambov and Mordovia, where they are working on developing agriculture," said Ivan Belozertsev.

The governor indicated that the foreign investors have the state and regional governments' support to create a good harvest and a good climate for doing business to extend the area. According to the local papers the parties agreed acceptable conditions for both to come to the agreed collaboration.
