Luscious Fresh: Production increase after strong demand from Europe

“Since the end of April, our packing house is processing more than 20 tons of sugar snaps and snow peas a day. We pick, select, process and cut the edges of the snow peas and sugar snaps before they are shipped. Each week we have been exporting around 110 tons,” says Monica of Luscious Fresh.

“We are now sending six to seven containers to Europe each week, and an number of containers to Canada, Australia and other countries. In total we are shipping ten containers per week now. Our workers have been working very hard to meet all the demands. We had to postpone some of the shipments by three or four days because, for a little while, we did not manage to catch up because of all the work.”

“Our airfreight shipments to Europe increased significantly this season. By now we have shipped over 50 tons by air. We are very grateful about the weather conditions. There have been occasional drizzles, but these have not affected our crops. The season started to speed up relatively late because of cold weather earlier in the year, but now the season is at full swing. At the start we harvested 10 tons per day, which has grown to 22 to 23 tons per day.”

Increase in production
“The weekend of the first of May was a national holiday in China, which gave our workers a chance to breath and recover. Since then we have been fully up to speed. Earlier we launched an international advertising and marketing campaign. Now we are attracting more buyers from Europe and other countries. Therefore we started to expand our snow peas and sugar snaps production in China. We are in the process of extending our fields so that we can increase our total production. This year we launched our export campaign earlier than before in the months February and March. The current supply period will continue until the beginning of June."

“We are preparing a second export round that to supply the European markets from August until December. Hopefully the weather stays on our side. What's more, we will continue to develop our planting techniques and standards for pesticide control, and are actively approaching new partners.”
